Baseball is a game where results are often related to whether or not you have your ace pitcher pitching on a given day....among other game to game inconsistancies that isn't faced regularly in other sports.

Gate City had their #4 pitcher on the mound last night.

The LPD is a weak district right now. I thought the Kelly girl's would win State in basketball. You just don't know anymore.

And if Shupe was still coaching at Wise, they would be a state force to be reckoned with.

If Shupe was still the coach at Wise, it wouldn't be any different than it is now. Wyrick is a great coach and took the kids Mack didn't think were worth a darn when he left to the final four.

I think coach Wyrick does a good job at Kelly. He has kids that love the game and play hard. I don't think any team around has the same type kids they had 5 years ago. If you have the kind of kid that will do whatever it takes to win you should feel very fortunate. The kids today are soft and there moms and dads do everthing for them. Thet have been told all of there life that they are good and sometime when things get tough they fold under pressure.

Mack left because he had his doubts as to Kelly's future! Coach Wyrick and the INDIANS have done a great job of keeping Kelly's baseball tradition alive. While Coach Shupe had an undeniable amount of success at Wise, he had GREAT assistants (Coach Stinson's absence hurts more than Shupe's)and most importantly, he had those Indian players that were the real key to success. I would imagine that Doug Bates could have pitched for Pound this year and had success!! Have no doubt that the athletes were the key to success! With that said, Kelly will be fine moving into the Regional Tournament. They have a nice pitching rotation and will be ready to play. What they are up against is the fact that they play in the LPD, and these days that means they only have a couple of district games that challenge them and they may hurt come Regional/State Tourney time. There are those who will argue that Kelly's non-district schedule was as strong if not stronger than anyone else's....and that is a good argument. However, most of those games (Myrtle Beach Tourney) were played so long ago that they really do not help that much at this point. Good luck to all teams in their upcoming district tourneys!

JJKelly probably has the best baseball team ever this year, and yes the district is down, but any game is like a test, you may not do good every time. I am not for JJK but truth be known Wise is the best in baseball, and for that I am for them, as we all should be as they represent our district. Regardless of town rivalry we should support each team when district comes; and then regionals--we need to show the state where we are--even being a Raider, I am pulling for you Indians!!!
